A visit to the Lake District is not complete without a trip on Steam Yacht Gondola on Coniston. Gondola is a beautifully rebuilt Victorian steam powered passenger yacht that sails on Coniston Water from the beginning of April until the end of October. Managed by the National Trust, Gondola offers the most unique and relaxing sailing experience in elegant, upholstered saloons and is the perfect way to view Coniston's spectacular scenery.

During the cruise, the crew provide commentary on Coniston's history and its famous connections with water speed record breaker Donald Campbell, art critic John Ruskin and author of Swallows and Amazons, Arthur Ransome. We recommend you check out the magnificent steam engine whilst you're on board and watch the engineer load fuel into the firebox and tend to the engine.

If you want to combine your cruise with a little culture or a walk, hop off at Brantwood (home of John Ruskin) for the former or Monk Coniston for the latter where you can walk up to Tarn Hows and back before picking up Gondola for the return journey to Coniston Pier. Be sure to check the online timetable for return pick up times from Brantwood and Monk Coniston.

Half-Lake Cruises on Gondola
