Cumbria Steam GatheringThe 42nd Cumbria Steam Gathering will feature more than 1,200 classic exhibits, displays, entertainment, plus specialist caterers and crafts. Between 20 - 25,000 visitors attend the Steam Gathering each year, organised by The Cumbria Steam & Vintage Vehicle Society. They have been bringing together vintage and steam vehicles from across the world for one massive summer event, held just outside Grange-over-Sands, for over four decades.

This huge, colourful and noisy event is held over two days and provides a whole host of family entertainment and vintage transport favourites. These include classic cars, majestic steam engines, bicycles, commercial vehicles, fire appliances, military vehicles and motorcycles. Being situated in a mainly agricultural area, tractors, farm machinery and stationary engines are well represented and always attract much interest.

This year members of the Ford and Fordson Association will stage their annual Expo display at Flookburgh. The display, which highlights the varied output of the Ford Motor Company - mainly in respect of their contribution to agricultural mechanisation - is now in its tenth year. This will be the first time that this event has been staged in this part of the country. For fans of blue (and green and orange, with possibly a few grey) tractors, this is an occasion not to be missed!
After last year's successful introduction of a food hall, this continues at Cumbria Steam Gathering 2014, providing an opportunity for local producers to promote their various product lines. Musical entertainment will be provided throughout the weekend by the ever popular Pantonic All Stars steel band and for fans of mechanical music, a number of fairground-type organs will be in attendance.
Other popular highlights are the large grandstands and main arena showcasing a constant parade of traditional treasures. In the working area, weather permitting, there will be demonstrations of cultivating, ploughing, woodsawing and haymaking machinery. Also in the working area, Kendal Bowmen will display their Archery skills. On both Saturday and Sunday mornings, there will be an opportunity to drive a traction engine in the  main arena (donations will go to local charities).

With many different catering outlets and fully licensed bar area, the Cumbria Steam Gathering is a great way to taste the sights, sounds and smells of a memorable family weekend. For real-ale connoisseurs, a Steam Gathering Ale will be available, brewed especially for the weekend by Ulverston Brewery.

To help reunite lost toddlers and young children, the Cumbria Steam Society provides free wristbands throughout the event. There is also wheelchair accessible toilets and ample parking for blue badge holders.
