'Wish You Were Here' Postcards Exhibition at Brockhole
Your Guide 2 Events in Bowness & Windermere
The Lake District National Park Visitor Centre
at Brockhole are exhibiting personal postcards from top celebrities and sports stars to celebrate Cumbria's progress after the floods of 2009.
The free
Wish You Were Here
touring exhibition will feature a
lmost 100 postcards, private photographs, paintings and drawings by some of Britain’s top celebrities.
Cumbria Tourism launched the
Wish You Were Here
campaign in the wake of the flooding to send the message that the county is open for business and welcoming visitors. Celebrities were invited to send postcards about what they love about Cumbria and they gave an overwhelming response. Actors including
Sir Ian McKellen,
Sir Patrick Stewart, Robbie Coltrane,
Carey Mulligan, Judi Dench
(see right)
and
Honor Blackman have sent anecdotes and personal photographs in support of the campaign and to encourage people to visit those places that hold special memories for them.
Television stars who've contributed include Anne Robinson,
Ricky Tomlinson,
Ben Shephard, Matt Horne and Philip Glenister with sporting legends Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Henry Cooper and Gary Lineker also sending in postcards. Home-grown talent who've supported the
Wish You Were Here
project, with
postcards revealing their favourite places in Cumbria,
include
Helen Skelton from
Blue Peter, Hairy Biker Dave Myers, West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Scott Carson, climber Leo Houlding and England Rugby Union captain Steve Borthwick
