Holy Trinity Church, Brathay
Wordsworth helped find the beautiful hilltop site for Holy Trinity Church at Brathay. In a letter to a friend the poet wrote "There is not a situation outside the Alps or among them more beautiful than this".
Holy Trinity Church was consecrated by the Bishop of Chester on October 1st 1836. Due to the rugged and restricted area on the top of the hill, the church had to be laid north / south instead of the customary east / west. However the churchyard burials are correctly orientated.
Holy Trinity also the host of Music at Brathay, a year-round series of concerts and performances which bring together the best of the local and regional music scene.
Nb. As times of church services can sometimes change at short notice, or be seasonal; we recommend contacting the church before travelling any distance.
