The Royal Oak is a traditional Lake District riverside pub nestled in the former Bobbin Mill village of Spark Bridge, offering cosy en-suite B&B rooms with good home-cooked food, WiFi and garden. Situated on the River Crake in beautiful countryside, the Royal Oak also offers visitors a warm welcome, real open fire and real ales. Situated close to Coniston and not far from Hawkshead, Bowness, Windermere and Ulverston, the Royal Oak makes an excellent base for exploring the Lake District National Park.

Whether you’ve spent the day mountain biking in Grizedale, walking on one of the many local fells, cycling on a national cycle route, kayaking on Coniston Water or shopping in Ulverston, The Royal Oak at Spark Bridge is the perfect place to finish your day with a traditional ale in front of a real fire with some delicious home-cooked food. You can then retreat to one of their newly-refurbished, comfy, en-suite B&B rooms.


Accommodation at the Royal Oak

The Royal Oak at Spark Bridge offers three newly-decorated en-suite B&B rooms with WiFi, known as the Beatrix Potter, Wordsworth and Wainwright rooms. You'll find a warm and cosy country cottage feel in all of the spacious rooms with their traditional oak beams and views of the surrounding countryside. All rooms have pleasant soft furnishings, tea & coffee making facilities, colour TVs, DVD players, hairdryer, iron and ironing board.

All room rates include Full English Breakfast made using local ingredients, or you can choose from cereal, porridge, boiled egg etc. Packed lunches can be made for a small fee.

Children are welcome at the Royal Oak and two of their rooms (Beatrix Potter & Wordsworth) contain single beds, so there is plenty of room for the little ones. Dogs are also welcome, at a small rate of £5 per dog per room. All they ask is that dogs are dried off before coming in.

 Food at The Royal Oak

The Royal Oak at Spark Bridge serves fresh, home-cooked food daily, with all meat obtained from local butcher Hutchinsons of Greenodd, who source their meat from local farms. Bread is delivered from Grange Bakery and all vegetables are sourced from McClures of Windermere. The Royal Oak's menu features a variety of home-cooked dishes, including burgers, pie of the day, the traditional Lake District favourite Cumberland sausage, along with vegetarian dishes. The pub also has a regularly changing Specials Board, which features a variety of home-cooked fare.

Sunday roasts are on the menu every Sunday with a choice of three meats, all locally-sourced and home-cooked with all the trimmings. A homemade vegetarian nut roast is available with vegetarian gravy and all the trimmings, as well as gluten-free gravy. A home-cooked childrens’ menu contains locally-sourced ingredients and fresh sandwiches are available every lunchtime with a delicious choice of fillings. A desserts board features a variety of sweets, including the Lake District favourite, Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Food is served Monday to Saturday: 12 - 3pm & 5 - 9pm; Sunday - 12 - 9pm


Drink at The Royal Oak

The Royal Oak's newly-refurbished bar serves traditional cask ales, premium lagers, cider, draught Guinness and Theakston's mild. The Spark Bridge pub near Ulverston also stocks a range of red, white and rose wines, along with a top shelf of liqueurs, spirits and malt whiskeys. The Royal Oak also offers a good selection of soft drinks, including tea, coffee and a variety of herbal and fruit teas.

The Lake District is renowned for its many breweries and micro-breweries that offer a wide range of excellent cask ales. The Royal Oak stocks a number of guest ales, such as Coniston Bluebird, Bluebird Bitter and Thwaites Wainwright.
