staveley_stamp.jpgSt James was built by J.S. Crowther between 1864-5 and took the place of St Margaret's Church (only the tower remains of the 14th century church). The church is in the Diocese of Carlisle and houses a stained glass east window designed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones and made by William Morris and Co. A section of the window, featuring a six-winged angel playing a mandolin, was chosen as the Royal Mail 2nd Class Christmas stamp for 2009.
