Grasmere’s association with William Wordsworth and other Lakeland poets such as Samuel Taylor Coleridge, has made the village, situated in the centre of the Lake District, a major tourist attraction. There's plenty of gift shops and places to eat and stay. William and his sister Dorothy moved into Dove Cottage, in 1799 and lived in Grasmere for fourteen years. He described it as "the loveliest spot that man hath ever found".
Grasmere is also renowned for its Grasmere Gingerbread and its 13th Century church of St Oswald's where William Wordsworth and his wife Mary are buried.
