Derwent Island HouseIn the Derwent Island House Open Day you will discover the reality of life on the island past and present, indoors and out, and enjoy the gardens, grounds and amazing views of Derwentwater and the island.

Your adventure begins by canoe, a peaceful paddle across a short stretch of Derwentwater to the intriguing little island aboard a very stable rafted canoe, under the expert eyes of qualified canoe instructors. On reaching the island enjoy a 45 minute guided tour of Pocklington's Georgian house and then explore the gardens and the rest of the island at your leisure.

Collect your tickets from the National Trust lakeside shop and make your way beyond the launch jetties to the canoes - look out for the National Trust flag. The first tour departs at 10.15am and then at every 45 minutes, with the last canoe to the island leaving at 2.30pm. The last return to the foreshore is at 4.45pm and your visit will last approximately 2½ hours.

Please wear clothing appropriate to the weather forecast as your visit takes place mostly outdoors. Wellies are recommended or a change of shoes, as you may get wet feet getting in and out of the canoe. Families very welcome and this event is suitable for groups. As this event involves getting in and out of a canoe and access through the house involves steps and stairs, please discuss any specific access requirements when booking.
