The Dignity in Dementia Care Course at the Marchesi Centre in Windermere is a free course for family carers produced and delivered by Dignity in Dementia and funded by Cumbria Community Foundation. If you are a family carer, supporting a person with dementia who sometimes feels out of their depth, the Dignity in Dementia course can help by providing:

• Effective and easy to use dementia care instruction that will help you connect more effectively to the person you support, leading to an improved quality of life for you both.
• Simple relaxation techniques to help you cope with the difficult and stressful situations that arise.

Areas covered include:
-  What is dementia?
-  Understanding Feelings and entering into the reality of the person with dementia
-  Communicating effectively and building trust
-  Understanding the importance of comfort, how to detect pain and how dementia can effect vision
-  Dealing with challenging behaviour and distraction methods
-   Meaningful occupation and the importance of reminiscence and music
-   Importance of looking after yourselves including simple relaxation exercises
