Furness Bach Choir presents The Surround of Music, a concert of works written for multiple choirs dating from the 17th to the 21st century and conducted by Anthony Milledge. These include the well-known Miserere by Allegri, in which the soprano soloist Ciara Myakicheff-Preston soars to a top C, plus Lauda Jerusalem from the Monteverdi Vespers. In this a group of tenors sing the plainsong hymn, while the other voices, in two separate choirs, weave a richly-textured web of music around them.

There will also be a performance of O Praise the Lord All Ye Heaven, by Thomas Tomkins, an English composer, as well as modern works: Water Night by Eric Whitacre and Evening Prayer by Norwegian musician Ola Gjeilo, with Faye Lewis performing a saxophone improvisation. The longest works are the Mass for 4 Choirs by French Baroque composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier and an extended four choir work called Hora Est by Mendelssohn. For these works the choir will split into four equal groups, with the audience hearing the music from all corners of the church, creating a 'surround sound' effect.

Tickets: £10 (students £5) from Sutton's Bookshop, Ulverston or call 01229 837680 or at the door
