Email: info(at)lakesalive.co.uk
Venue: Kendal Castle, Brewery Arts, Abbot Hall etc.
Town: Kendal
County: Cumbria

With the theme of 'Cultural Landscapes', Lakes Alive offers a weekend of spectacular happenings in and around Kendal and the Lake District, showcasing world class work in unexpected locations. At Kendal Castle there will be a beautiful field of light installation, the size of a football pitch, that will be visible throughout the town. Created by artist Pete Johnson, Shipping Forecast will be one of the many highlights of the free festival.

Other work includes a sound intervention by south Cumbrian artist Dan Fox called Cymbria. This is a new piece created with the voices and sounds of Cumbria. London-based Folk Dance Remixed, a collision of traditional and Hip Hop dance and music will delight audiences throughout the weekend along with several other contemporary dance companies. Walk with Me is an adventurous walk and sound installation by Dutch composers Rob van Rijswijk and Jeroen Strijbos.

Visitors to Lakes Alive will experience vibrant illuminations, digital delights, intimate performances, amazing installations and spectacular happenings. Other stunning art and participation activities will take place across the town including The Brewery Arts Centre, Abbot Hall and Kendal Castle. The hugely popular Jacobs Join will run again and Lakes Alive hopes it will become a local tradition which starts off the festival. The mass community get-together for food, drink, music, and merriment takes place alongside the River Kent.
