Kirkby Lonsdale Christmas Fair
Friday 2nd December 2016 to Sunday 4th December 2016 - This event has finished
The annual Kirkby Lonsdale Christmas Fair and Market will see locals and visitors enjoy parades, entertainment, music, festive shopping, food and drink. The weekend begins on the Friday from 4pm to 8pm with street entertainment and late night shopping. On Saturday Father Christmas and his helpers will be led through the town by a brass band, switching on the lights of all the Christmas trees above the shops as if by magic! On the Sunday the Santa Parade begins at 2pm from Booths and proceeds down Mitchelgate to Market Square via Market Street and Main Street and features local floats, Santa cyclists and a carnival band.
The centre of Kirkby Lonsdale is being pedestrianised for the weekend to enable everyone to get close to the action. This year, there will be a larger chalet village in the heart of the town, where wooden chalets will be clustered around the market monument, offering shoppers a wide range of gift items from traders near and far. In addition, there will be a Santa’s grotto and a superb selection of festive food and drink to choose from, as well as a brand new indoor craft and food market in the Lunesdale Hall.
The weekend will also feature the traditional festive parade, the official switch-on of the lights and a wide variety of street entertainment and music. The popular Santa Cycle event is planned for Sunday 4th December. A great alternative is on offer for guests who might prefer a slower pace, as there will be a walking tour on Sunday (£4 charge), setting off outside The Royal Hotel at 11:30am.
As part of the town’s Christmas celebrations, creative members of the community are planning a living advent calendar. The calendar, organised by Jayne Davies, will be a pop-up festive event running each day from December 1 to 24. A full calendar of events, times and places will be available nearer the time from the Tourist Information Centre.
