The Marvellous Mozart weekend at the Old Laundry Theatre in Bowness celebrates the music and life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with a programme of chamber music delights by Ensemble 360:

Friday 19th May 2017 at 7:30pm – Opening Concert – The festival is opened with an evening concert featuring Mozart at his most irresistible – sophistication, playfulness, insight, wit, disarming charm, and that extra sparkle of magic that marks his music out from everyone else’s. The Violin Sonata in A was written in 1787, the same year that the composer wrote the famous ‘Eine Kleine Nachtmusik’, and it is known that Mozart accompanied the violinist Heinrich Anton Hoffman in a private performance of the piece in Mainz in 1790. The work is a true partnership of equals, with the violin and piano sharing wonderfully inventive materials. The finale is playful and uplifting, with endlessly cascading groups of quavers. Ticket Prices: Adult £22, Student £7. Dine out packages including a 2 course pre-recital meal are available. Book Online

Saturday 20th May 2017 at 5:15pm – Early Evening Lecture – Allow Ensemble 360 to shed new light on the music you are about to hear in the evening concert as the musicians explore a little more about Mozart, the musical genius and illustrate this with musical excerpts. Saturday 20th May 2017 at 7:30pm – Evening Recital – The String Quartet in D Minor, the second such piece that Mozart dedicated to Haydn, is a highly engaging work full of wonderful contrasts. It was written in 1783 and, according to anecdote, was completed even as Mozart’s wife, Constanze, was in labour with her first child. Constanze later recounted that the rising figures in the Quartet’s second movement were inspired by her cries from the other room! Ticket Prices: Adult £22, Student £7. Theatre Packages, including a 2 course pre-recital meal, are available. Book Online

Marvellous Mozart Weekend

Sunday 21st May 2017 at 11:30am – Bring and Sing – The beauty of Mozart’s music is at its most poignant in apparently simple pieces such as the motet Ave Verum Corpus. All enthusiastic singers are invited to join this 90-minute session, led by Stuart Overington, Director of Hallé Youth Choir and Director of Chetham’s School of Music Chamber Choir. This beautiful choral miniature will be explored and you will be able to pick up some expert tips on improving your singing technique. As part of the Bring & Sing choir you will be giving an informal performance of Ave Verum Corpus with Ensemble 360 as part of the Festival’s Finale Concert. Ticket Prices: £10.  Book Online

Sunday 21st May 2017 at 2:30pm – Sunday Concert – Another glorious programme of wonderful music, including an informal performance of Mozart’s choral masterpiece Ave Verum Corpus performed by Ensemble 360 and the Bring & Sing choir from the Festival morning workshop. Mozart’s Piano Quartet in E Flat was completed on 3rd June 1786, just a month after the first performance of The Marriage of Figaro. From the very opening , with a flourish that resembles a mini-orchestra, the work comes across as a bright and genial piece. The piano part has all the panache of a concerto, but the varied mixing of instrumental combinations is always highly inventive. Ticket Prices: Adult £15, Student £7. Book Online
