Take a 17th Century ruin, threatened with becoming a housing estate; add 14 acres of gardens and grounds, derelict for 40 years; blend with a sense of history; mix in a large dollop of irreverence; add a generous pinch of fairy dust. And stir. That is the recipe for Kirklinton Hall & Gardens!

Decorate with fresh flowers, a selection of organic fruit and vegetables - and season with pigs, to taste. Serve in generous slices: warm, with a chilled glass of wine; or cold, with a log fire, coffee and cake. Deliberately uncommercialised, Kirklinton Hall & Gardens is a place that invites you to make it your own. Come for an hour, or come for the day. Bring the (grand) children, or come alone. Bring a picnic, or a football; swimming trunks or the Sunday papers. Kirklinton allows you to do pretty much anything, or pretty much nothing. Dogs allowed on lead, refreshments available from onsite café and plant stall at venue.

Prices: £4 adult, £1 children under 12  | 12noon - 5pm

Kirklinton Hall

Directions: Six miles north-east of Carlisle on the A7. Turn right at Blackford towards Kirklinton / Scaleby, turn right onto the A6071 and the hall is then signposted thereafter.
