Royalty Wurlitzer Organ Concerts 2017
The Royalty Cinema in Bowness is hosting another series of two hour Tuesday lunchtime concerts featuring their Wurlitzer organ, with some of the UK's best-known artists performing at six special presentations.
A team of volunteers from The Furness Theatre Organ Project recently completed a five year programme of restoration of the 1927 Wurlitzer, the only one of its kind in a working cinema in Europe.
The organ is a 2 manual instrument of 7 ranks which was originally installed in a theatre in Cleveland, Ohio before arriving in England in 1934, where it was installed in the Rex Cinema in East London. The Wurlitzer remained there until the early 1970s when it was put into storage.
The summer 2017 schedule is 16th May: Byron Jones; 20th June: Cameron Lloyd; 18th July: Paul Kirner; 15th August: Ian Midgley & Declan Poole; 19th September: David Lobban; 17th October: house organists.
12:30pm to 2:30pm (approx.) | Tickets £6 available on the door
