The Words by the Water Festival is the north-west of England's premier festival of words and ideas. Although the festival can’t summon Wordsworth and Coleridge to take part in their programme, there are many other literary folk coming to the Lake District in March 2017. One hundred authors, poets, academics and speakers will attract thousands of book lovers to the scenic Theatre by the Lake in Keswick on Derwentwater's shore.

The highlights include Harriet Harman on Women and Parliament as well as in conversation with Emma Jane Kirby; Chris Tarrant on The Romance of the Railways; Lord Melvyn Bragg delivering The Royal Literary Fund Lecture on The North; Peter Snow on British History in 50 Documents; Sir Vince Cable discusses Balancing the Books; Roy Hattersley on The Survival of Catholicism, Lord David Owen on Churchill’s Cabinet and much, much more.
