Milnthorpe

milnthorpe farmers marketThe historic medieval market village of Milnthorpe is situated 7 miles south of Kendal on the A6 not far from the Lake District National Park. It consists largely of beautiful, limestone buildings and narrow lanes and is renowned for its Friday markets.

The weekly markets date back to 1334 when King Edward III granted permission in a Charter. The markets (including Farmers Markets) are held in the delightful Market Square which is bordered on three sides by picturesque cottages and inviting shops. The fourth side opens out on to green lawns and trees which lead to the 19th century church of St. Thomas.

The nearby Heron Corn Mill and Levens Hall are well worth a visit too.
