Ambleside

ambleside bridge houseThe busy town of Ambleside is situated in the centre of the Lake District National Park, just five miles from the town of Windermere. It makes for a convenient base for a holiday in the Lake District and lies at the head of Windermere, England's longest lake.

It's most famous building is Bridge House (pictured) which was built over 300 years ago by the Braithwaite family as a summer house and apple store for Ambleside Hall.

The stone structure is built on top of a bridge that straddles a stream and is these days used by the National Trust as an information centre.

The University of Cumbria also has a campus at Ambleside with many students on site.
