A visit to the Lake District is not complete without a trip on Steam Yacht Gondola on Coniston. Gondola is a beautifully-rebuilt Victorian steam powered passenger yacht that sails on Coniston water from the beginning of April until the end of October each year. Managed by the National Trust, Gondola offers the most unique and relaxing sailing experience in sumptuous, upholstered saloons and is the perfect way to view Coniston's spectacular scenery.

The original Gondola was first launched in 1859 and has been completely rebuilt by the National Trust. Each journey involves a sail to Monk Coniston jetty at the north of the lake; then a walk through Monk Coniston garden and on to Tarn Hows. Or disembark at Brantwood and visit the home of the eminent Victorian art-critic, writer and water-colour artist John Ruskin.

Half-Lake Cruises on Gondola

Half-lake 45 minute cruises take place daily, calling in at Brantwood (25 minutes past the hour) and at Monk Coniston (35 minutes past the hour). You may break your journey and re-join Gondola on a later sailing. Retain your Gondola ticket and gain 50p off the adult house admission at Brantwood. Cruise fares: Adult £9.90; Child £4.90; Family: £24.70 (2 adults, 3 children)
