ldnpa.jpgGUIDED LDNPA WALKS - Of course, taking a walk around Ambleside in order to appreciate the beautiful Lake District scenery is a must for all visitors. However, for those who want to experience a safe, guided walk and learn more about the area, a Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) walk is highly recommended.

There are many walks such as Walk With The Romans which is a leisurely guided walk from Waterhead in Ambleside to the head of Windermere and then into the old Roman fort of Galava.Plus Coffins, Caves and Crags,in which you can enjoy tales of old lakeland, a lofty crag, three lakes, a cave and, of course, wonderful scenery. Then in Family Stroll to a Working Farm walkers can learn more about modern agricultural life. The walk leaders are friendly and knowledgeable and will help you discover quiet corners with breathtaking views. The walks take place between February and November and are graded to help you choose one that matches your ability.

AMBLESIDE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
- The annual Ambleside Christmas lights switch-on in late November is quite a spectacle which begins at lunchtime with
entertainment and the opening of stalls in Market Cross. A steamer then brings Santa to Ambleside's Waterhead pier and then a sleigh ride conveys him to Ambleside town centre. A parade through the Lake District town takes place at dusk with hundreds of paper lanterns being carried. Young and old turn out to witness the spectacular procession and Christmas street lights throughout the Ambleside town centre are switched on as if by magic by Santa Claus!
