Staveley

staveley1.jpgThe historic village of Staveley with its many grey slate buildings and overlooked by three hills, is situated off the A591 just four miles to the north-west of Kendal and four miles from Windermere.

It’s said to be the Gateway to the Lake District and lies at the mouth of the Kentmere valley at the junction of the rivers Kent and Gowan. Weekly markets and an annual fair have been held in Staveley from 1329 when the village was granted a market charter.

To the south of Staveley is Crook and to the north Kentmere, which can only be accessed by passing through Staveley village centre.
